These rings are often called neck rings because they are used to hold the neck collar together. The silversmiths on the other hand refer to this brooch as a Ripple Ring (Krusering). This is because the brooch is made up of "ripples" (Kruser) arranged in a circle. This is a type of filigree that looks like a spring laid on its side, coiled around a small orb and soldered in place. The Ripple Ring can replace the Neck pin.
