Bunad silver Lundeby Lady

Lundeby Lady

The Lundeby-costume was designed by the art painter Alf Lundeby in the 1920s.
The silver used for it is oxidized, which means that it's in silver darkened in the groves of the pattern. With exception of the plaques on the belt, most of the silver is "thread work", which means it is embroidered into the fabric of the Bunad. This is not like common filigree, which is silver thread work on a silver plate. On the chest it is common with a neck brooch and either a rose brooch with dishes, a Gudbrandsdal button or a heart brooch. In addition there are cufflinks, a purse clasp, perhaps a plaque belt, a ring, ear trinkets and shoe buckles.

Even though it might not have been ordinary for women to carry knives in this district (Lillehammer) at the time this costume was designed, there is nothing wrong with carrying one with your Bunad today. The Bunad even has a very own belt plaque to hang the knife on.
