Bunad silver Hallingdal gentleman

Hallingdal gentleman

The most commonly used model of the Halling male Bunad is the black one, which in many ways resembles a modern dark suit. It has a lot in common with the Vest-Telemark gentleman's Bunad, but may also be found in other variations. The silver: The silver is mainly buttons. Normally, 12 large ones for the coat and 18 or 24 smaller ones for the vest, the coat sleeves and alternatively on the breeches. There are tailors that vary a little from this. In addition to buttons one may use neck buttons or a cross tooth neck-pin holding the neck collar together. There's usually a neckerchief, and further down on the chest one may have a cross tooth neck-pin and/or one or several small neck-pins. On the cuffs one should have cuff buttons. A proper male Bunad should have a knife, preferably with silver fittings with engraved patterns and cut patterns in the leather on the sheath. If the pants are made for usage of a belt, one will need a belt buckle. If it's not, one will need a small button for attaching the knife. Shoe buckles in real silver complete the set.
