Bunad silver Nordland gentleman

Nordland gentleman

The gentleman's Bunad from Nordland, the way it is today, was originally designed by the tailor Cornelius Jacobsen in Harstad as a groom Bunad for Johannes Eidsnes in 1924. The material for this Bunad was collected from different places in Nordland and Troms. The coat and the breeches are in black wool cloth. One may use suspenders with the breeches, fastened with buttons. The vest is in flowery brocade like fabric and there is also a white shirt, stockings and a ribbon for the stockings.

The silver: The buttons for Vest, coat and knee breeches are most commonly in silver or tin. In total, there are 18 small and 24 large buttons. The neck button and the cufflinks have a flower motive in oxidized silver. If one does not wish to use the bow at the neck one may replace that and the neck button with a neck ring. Shoe buckles, knee buckles, a knife and a knife button for the pant lining, and a timepiece and chain should all be included to complete this Bunad.
