Bunad silver Sunnfjord lady

Sunnfjord lady

Sunnfjord had a traditional way of carrying their national costume until the 1860s. This tradition is the basis for the modern Sunnfjord Bunad. There is a lot of work involved in keeping the Bunad as traditional as possible. Everything from coloring the fabric and making the patterns, to the cut of the dress, it is done after the old models. There is a wide variation in colors and apron patterns.

The silver: The Silver was usually produced in Bergen. The pocket cover and the button that goes with it were usually found in brass. The shirt collar is held together with a double button with big gilded dish-leafs. Underneath this you will find a bigger gilded Face Brooch. Other smaller brooches can be silvered, but the leaves are always gilded. You would find a plaque belt on this Bunad too. The plaques are gilded and the plaque belt is for married ladies.
