Bunad silver Skjaelestakk from Tinn

Skjaelestakk from Tinn

The Skjælestakk was used in Tinn for the first half of the 1800s, and it is older than the Tinnbunad. In the Skjælestakk the resemblance to the Hallingdal and Numedal Bunads is much clearer than on the Tinnbunad. It shows in the colors, shape and silver.

The majority of the silver was transferred onto the Tinnbunad later on, in example the dish-brooch. The dish-brooch and the rose-brooch are both brooch models from as far back as the 1300s. The neck buttons and cufflinks are both shared by the two Bunads as well. But the Plaque Belt, eyelets and cape-chain are all Skjælestakk silver, and almost never to be found on the Tinnbunad. The Skjælestakk uses more brass than the Tinnbunad.

To have a full set of silver for the Skjælestakk one will need a neck button or pin, and/or a simple fastener/spirang-brooch/rose-brooch and/or a dish-brooch, and cufflinks. After that one may choose to carry a plaque belt and eyelets, most often cast in brass. If one wishes to have a cape for the Bunad, it should be complimented with a simple buckle at the bottom of it, and a buckle and cape chain on the top.
