Askoy gentleman

The gentleman's Bunad from Askoy (Askøy) is in black woolen cloth or fabric. The coat and the vest have got a high collar and its edge is decorated with a plum-colored lace so as to fit the ladies Bunad. The same plum-color is repeated in the buttonholes. The vest may also be made in the same fabric as the waist piece on the ladies Bunad. The breeches have got a normal lining in front. White shirt, shoes, stockings and lace belongs with this Bunad. In the old days, one would also use a felt hat with it.

The silver: The silver for this Bunad should be oxidized. In the shirt there is a neck-button and cufflinks. In the breeches there are three buttons and a buckle to close the split by the knee. The double-breasted vest has got 10 silver buttons and a pocket for the timepiece. The coat is decorated by a silver button on each lower collar and five buttons on each side in the front. The coat can't be buttoned up. In addition, a man should have his knife, and one might want to consider silver shoe buckles, a timepiece and a chain for it.
