Bunad silver Valdres lady

Valdres lady

Both the "old" Valdres Bunad from 1914, and the "new" one from 1948 has embroideries on the skirt and waist piece. They both look pretty much alike, but the "new" one has a simpler skirt lining.

At the top of the shirt there is a small neck brooch, and underneath there's a bigger rose brooch with hoop leaves. Hoop leafs are big dish leafs with a tread lining, where the center has been removed. These leafs was the trademark for Hallingdal and Valdres, mainly Valdres, where the brooches were silvered, while the Halling brooches had gilded leafs. Of old the tread lining was smoldered on to the leaves, but in the last hundred years the goldsmiths has imprinted the tread pattern with hand tools.
