Bunad silver Kvinnherad Lady

Kvinnherad Lady

The old costume habits in Kvinherad persisted until the early 1900s. Over the years it had changed from a colorful costume into a darker one. Shortly after 1945 a wish for the resurrection of the old, colorful costume arose. The new Bunad was based on several old conserved costumes. It has several traits in common with Bunads from neighboring areas, and is today made in several editions with different combinations in fabric and ribbons.
The silver: You can use several types of silver. The brooches may be gilded, fair or oxidized and with or without colored stones. For the special-occasions-Bunad it is common to use gilded silver, while the winter edition usually has the oxidized version of the silver. At the top of the shirt you use neck-buttons with pendants, underneath it you will find the chest cloth with a bigger dish brooch, and cufflinks at the arm cuffs. The waist piece is decorated with two Bore pins. You will find a belt buckle together with gilded or oxidized belt plaques on the costume for married women. The black shoes have a pair of nice shoe buckles. A ladies knife, earrings, a timepiece and a ring completes this Bunad.
